Decatur Utilities provides electricity, natural gas, water, and wastewater in the greater Decatur, Alabama area to more than 30,000 customers.

Step 02. Apprentice
The lineworker apprentice at Decatur Utilities is responsible for a variety of tasks and accepts assignments from Line Supervisor on shift and shall be assigned to work directly with a 1st Class Lineman. Learns to perform those tasks required in the construction, maintenance or operation of electrical power transmission and distribution facilities. Lineman Apprentice I shall be assigned to a Line Supervisor on 1 of 4 rotating shift schedule: midnight to 08:00 a.m.; 08:00 a.m. to 04:00 p.m.; and 04:00 p.m. to midnight and a swing-shift.
Step 03. Journeyman
Journeyman lineman at Decatur Utilities Maintain cleanliness of all equipment and plant areas including buildings and grounds. With the direction of supervisors, collect data and track product inventory. Train on plant processes and procedures.
Step 04. Hiring
To become a Lineman at Decatur Utilities must have High school diploma or GED preferred, Ability to read and write and working of 3 years experience.
