Hiring on Lineman Central
The Village of Newberry Water & Light Department is the municipal electric and water utility in Newberry, Michigan (Upper Peninsula, Luce County). Small staff. Linework here is mixed with water operations on a village crew, not a big IOU district.
Step 01. Pay
On the Lineman Central job board (August 2026) a Journeyman Lineman posting listed $40.50–$50.00/hr. Village postings describe a traditional 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. five-day week with standby. Confirm the live scale and AFSCME contract before you apply.
Step 02. Apprentice
The village has posted both Journeyman Lineman/Water Operator and Apprentice Lineman/Water Operator. Apprentice seats ask for a lineworker school (or equivalent), Class B CDL with air brakes (or get it in six months), then lineman training plus D-3/S-3 water licenses. Journeyman asks for a card and two years as a JL; water experience is trained, not a blocker.
Step 03. Journeyman
Overhead and underground electric T&D, substations, metering, plus water mains, wells, and well houses. AFSCME union. This is a small U.P. village crew: you will know every feeder and most of the customers. Not the same Newberry as the South Carolina municipal (City of Newberry): different state, different system.
Step 04. Hiring
