Step 02. Apprentice
The lineworker apprentice at Alameda Municipal Power is responsible for a variety of tasks and accepts assignments from Line Supervisor on shift and shall be assigned to work directly with a 1st Class Lineman. Learns to perform those tasks required in the construction, maintenance or operation of electrical power transmission and distribution facilities. Lineman Apprentice I shall be assigned to a Line Supervisor on 1 of 4 rotating shift schedule: midnight to 08:00 a.m.; 08:00 a.m. to 04:00 p.m.; and 04:00 p.m. to midnight and a swing-shift.
Step 03. Journeyman
Journeyman lineman at Alameda will be required to participate in targeted training to achieve journey-level knowledge of the roles and responsibilities
Step 04. Hiring
Lineman at Alameda Municipal Power requires Graduation from high school or equivalent, Lineman Apprenticeship Completion Certificate issued by Electrical Training Alliance (previously called NJATC) or equivalent. Possession of a valid Class A State of California Driver's License (or possession of a valid Class C license at the time of employment and the ability to obtain Class A within six months of employment) and a satisfactory driving record as conditions of initial and continued employment. Employees in positions requiring a Class A license are subject to provisions of the Department of Transportation's drug and alcohol testing program.
